On May 8, Cruise is showing a new solo exhibition by Tia‑Simone Gardner, an artist and scholar who studies how Black history and experience appear in the landscape. She works with film, photos, drawing, and archives to explore the geography of the Mississippi River and the American South. Her art looks at how land and water can hold stories about hard labor, resistance, and escape.
For her project at Cruise, Gardner focuses on Minneapolis. She studies the river and the structures around it to understand how Black life, work, and environmental change come together in this place.
Date: Friday, May 8
Time: 6-8 p.m.
Location: Cruise, 3008 Hennepin Avenue, Suite B
Cruise is a Arts & Culture Vibrant Storefront funded by the City of Minneapolis Arts.
