November 8, 2025 | The City of Minneapolis celebrated the completion of Embracing Our Stories, Rising Together: Lake Street Medicine by Daniela Bianchini, Pablo Kalaka, Natchez Beaulieu, and Greta McLain. The celebration featured remarks by Ward 8 Council member Jason Chavez and the artists, as well as music by Brass Messengers and Toko Maza/Iron Enemy.
This mural is grounded in the Medicine Wheel, a symbol of Indigenous communities worldwide. The mural can also found on the South Minneapolis Area public art map. The mural joins the dozens of murals that were created as part of this summer’s Lake Street Lift.
The Department of Arts & Cultural Affairs created a new Mural Guide to assist artists and community groups in developing mural projects. Murals are key to realizing the City's goal from the Minneapolis 2040 Plan to have residents "enjoy a high-quality and distinctive physical environment in all parts of the city." This guide provides a step-by-step overview of how to develop a mural, important considerations throughout the process, and information on when and how to collaborate with the City.
Whether you’re an artist, property owner, or community organization, the guide offers practical tools and resources to help bring your creative vision to life.
Released in conjunction with the completion of the Hi-Lake Mural (link to mural project) the guide includes:
Clear, easy-to-follow information on how to plan and complete mural projects;
Information about when and how to work with the City;
Resources and tools to make your mural vision come to life.
The mural guide is available for download.
