Lined with local businesses, galleries, theaters, and murals, West Broadway showcases the creative energy and resilience of the community. From cultural festivals to neighborhood landmarks, it’s a vibrant destination where history, innovation, and community pride converge.

  • Hearts Healing Hearts CPR

    Location: Arts Space Lofts

    Steppin’ Together is a community-driven line dancing program that promotes physical health, social connection, and cultural engagement for people of all ages and backgrounds. Presented by Hearts Healing Hearts CPR, an organization known for its hands-on, practical training programs, this initiative extends their mission of community care by fostering wellness, togetherness, and joy through movement and dance.

  • Kenna Cottman

    Location: Outdoor Spaces

    The Mni House Pop Ups are a series of community dance fellowship events celebrating House music—a contemporary Black American creative form and Afrofuturist technology born from the pursuit of liberation and embraced worldwide. These short activations, held primarily in iconic outdoor spaces along West Broadway, highlight the innovation and global impact of Black music and dance culture.

    Led by Kenna-Camara Cottman, a Black American Griot and seasoned dance educator with over 20 years of experience, the events draw on her deep knowledge of traditional and contemporary drum and dance forms. Through her work with Voice of Culture Drum and Dance and collaborations with artists across genres, Kenna creates performances and experiences that honor African diasporic traditions while engaging communities in movement, storytelling, and shared celebration.

  • Lundstrum Performing Arts

    Location: 1617 N 2nd St, Minneapolis, MN 55411

    The Northside Conjunction Function will feature two performances at the end of each school semester, celebrating Lundstrum Performing Arts’ partnerships with local schools. These events highlight the creative achievements of students while fostering collaboration between arts education and the community.

    As Minnesota’s premier training program for dance, voice, and drama, Lundstrum Performing Arts is led by Broadway veterans and industry professionals dedicated to helping students of all ages and skill levels discover their unique talents in a supportive, welcoming environment.

  • Nancy Xiong

    Location: Capri

    Minneapolis Dance to Connect is a free one-day event celebrating the diverse cultural roots of Hip Hop as a vital and unifying movement. Curated by Nancy Xiong, a Hmong American dancer from North Minneapolis, the event highlights Hip Hop’s power to connect communities through rhythm, movement, and shared expression.

    Nancy’s dance journey began with Traditional Hmong dance and K-pop covers before evolving into a deep passion for Hip Hop, Open Style, and House. With experience performing, competing, and choreographing for multiple teams and events, Nancy brings her expertise and love of dance to create an inclusive space where people of all backgrounds can move, learn, and connect.

  • Project Refocus

    Location: Capri Labs

    Project Refocus empowers youth by providing multimedia training that builds creative and technical skills while fostering confidence and personal growth. Participants learn to express themselves through digital storytelling, video production, and other multimedia tools. The program culminates in a showcase event, where youth share their projects with the community, highlighting their voices, perspectives, and talents.

    Driven by a mission to support individuals and communities in navigating life’s challenges and achieving personal growth, Project Refocus creates opportunities for young people to learn, create, and thrive.

  • Roho Collective

    Location: Capri

    Northside Creative Spirit and Soul is a yearlong series of five immersive community art activations created to engage, uplift, and connect residents of North Minneapolis through the transformative power of art.

    Presented by Roho Collective, an organization dedicated to building spaces for art making, healing, therapy, dialogue, and education, the series uses creativity as a tool for connection and community building, fostering meaningful conversations and shared cultural experiences.

  • Tanya Eubanks

    Location: Lundstrum/Capri

    JBM will present “The City,” a classical theatrical play blending humor and drama to explore how systemic barriers create gaps in essential services. Written and directed by Tanya Eubanks, the production uses art as a tool to spark dialogue and reflection, inviting audiences to examine challenges within society while envisioning more equitable solutions.

  • Twin Cities Black Film Festival

    Location: Capri

    The Twin Cities Black Film Festival (TCBFF) is a premier, rapidly growing film festival dedicated to showcasing films created by and featuring African American and multicultural talent from the Twin Cities and beyond. Its mission is to engage diverse audiences while highlighting the creativity and influence of Black filmmakers and storytellers.

    Festival highlights include Opening and Closing Night Premieres, an A-List Party, Panel Discussions, the Hollywood Fashion Show, and the Awards Gala. With hundreds of films submitted globally, TCBFF carefully curates the best in cinema, bringing unique and powerful stories to thousands of attendees. The 2024 festival runs October 10–14, 2024, celebrating culture, creativity, and community through film.

  • Zintkala Luta

    Location: North Commons

    The Sacred Tree Art Powwow is a community celebration on the north side of Minneapolis, honoring and uplifting Black and Indigenous communities through cultural sharing, art, and tradition. Hosted by Zintkala Luta, a youth-focused nonprofit dedicated to family support, education, and ancestral healing practices, the event reflects the organization’s mission to connect communities with sacred traditions, holistic health, and free access to fresh, organic produce through its community garden initiatives.

  • Juxtaposition Arts

    Location: 2007 Emerson Ave N, Minneapolis, MN 55411

    Juxtaposition Arts (JXTA) will host a series of Open House events inviting the community to explore and participate in arts activities. As a North Minneapolis non-profit youth art and design education center, gallery, retail shop, and artists’ studio, JXTA provides space for creativity, learning, and connection while supporting the next generation of artists and designers.

Plan Your Visit to West Broadway

Light Rail:
West Broadway is not currently served by a light rail station, but the planned METRO Blue Line Extension will add stations along West Broadway, enhancing future access. For now, nearby transit hubs like Target Field Station offer connections via bus and light rail just minutes away.

Bus Routes:
West Broadway is a key transit corridor in North Minneapolis, served by several high-frequency Metro Transit routes:

  • Route 14: Runs along West Broadway, connecting North Minneapolis to downtown and northeast neighborhoods.

  • Route 5: A major north-south route that intersects West Broadway and connects to Brooklyn Center and South Minneapolis.

  • Route 30: Offers east-west connections between North and Northeast Minneapolis.
    Most buses operate from approximately 4:30 AM to 1 AM, providing frequent service throughout the day and evening.

Parking Options:
Street parking is available along West Broadway with typical 1- to 2-hour limits (8 AM–6 PM) in commercial areas. There are also surface lots near community hubs like the Capri Theater and North Market, and some businesses provide customer parking.
