In addition to the Creative Response Fund grants, new funding opportunities will be available later in the year for individual artist entrepreneurs, creative businesses, and arts and cultural nonprofit organizations. In 2021, the City of Minneapolis’ Arts & Cultural Affairs Department was awarded one-time funding from the Mayor’s office to assist the creative sector with the process of recovery. Our office is creating three new funding opportunities under a Creative Business Support Fund umbrella. These one-time resources will offer support in rebuilding creative enterprise capacity to not only return to business, but to plan and build for the future.
There will be three types of Creative Business Support Fund grant opportunities valued at $15,000 per award. These business support grants will be aimed at funding services focused on capacity building and job creation through apprenticeships, marketing and workspace planning and sustainability, offered in collaboration with Artspace, Juxtaposition Arts and Springboard for the Arts. Look for these opportunities in the spring of 2022.
We are excited to have all of these resources to offer to the creative community, but we are mindful that our resources are limited. To prioritize accessibility, encourage first time applicants and ensure that our limited resources reach as many people as possible, we have established eligibility guidelines that limit the number of grant programs Minneapolis creatives can apply for. Please review the eligibility guidelines provided here so that you can prioritize your needs and plan to apply accordingly.
Eligibility Guidelines:
Past recipients of Creative Response Funding* must wait two years after the completion of their projects before they are eligible to apply for a new Creative Response Fund grant. (e.g if the end date of your grant award was August 2021, you are not eligible to apply for a new grant until 2024)
New applicants to the Creative Response Fund will be given priority consideration.
Recipients of a Creative Response Fund grant in 2022 will not be eligible to apply for a Creative Business Support Fund grant, and applicants for Creative Business Support Fund grants must choose among the three programs and will be restricted to one application. This is a one-time opportunity and the programs require commitment and time to complete. Again, prospective applicants should prioritize the funding category that best supports their needs.
More details on the Creative Business Support grant programming will be made available in the spring. To keep up to date on all Arts & Cultural Affairs grant opportunities and deadlines, sign up for the Arts & Cultural Affairs newsletter here.
*Creative Response Funding grantees are lead artist teams members, not all team members.
