Cultural Districts Arts Fund initiative: The Cultural District Ambassador Program supports one ambassador in each Cultural District to work closely with community (local business, cultural venues, organizations, etc.), Arts & Cultural Affairs department staff, the other Cultural District ambassadors and Minneapolis Arts Commissioners to leverage arts and culture to identify site-responsive community needs with focus on community building, well-being and the economic vitality of the Minneapolis Cultural Districts.

Join the You Haul Art Crawl - A traveling art exhibition featuring five pop-up art galleries housed in moving trucks, making three stops in NE Minneapolis. Produced by Nat Kim & Brighton McCormick.

ART LIVES HERE: Eastside's Creative Workshop Series

COMPAS Teaching Artist Katrina Knutson will guide you through the process of creating interesting wearable art from used bike tubes and things you find at a hardware store. Alter tubes into dynamic shapes and add chains and metal pieces. Make necklaces, earrings, and bracelets with an industrial and urban feel and look.

Join Roho Collective for Art Heals, Juneteenth edition! A celebration honoring Black creativity, resilience, and liberation through the arts. Featuring live performances, visual art, family activities, and community connections and conversation.

Join us for an interactive walking tour along the corridor to explore opportunities for a transformed commercial landscape that truly serves artists and the broader community. We’ll examine the lack of continuity in commercial ownership, discuss barriers to artist-led business development, and envision what meaningful, long-term change could look like in one, three, or five years. Who are the key decision-makers in this process? What would it take to make a more artist-friendly corridor a reality? Let’s walk, talk, and strategize together.

Summer Cut Paper Art Activities

The cut paper art will influence the the new sculpture’s design 

Lori Greene and Juliette Perine Myers are creating a sculpture for the New Nicollet Re-development. The brightly colored and patterned sculpture will resemble larger-than-life sprouting plants and fungi.  

The Minneapolis Arts Commission is the policy body responsible for advising on the commissioning, placement and maintenance of works of art purchased, accepted and owned by the city and produced or created with public funds. The Commission is represented on all artist selection panels and regularly reviews and acts upon recommendations by the Public Art Advisory Panel. 

Arts Commission meetings are open to the public. Meeting schedules and agendas are available online.  

Join Blackbird Revolt for Juneteenth Is… a celebratory Pre-Game of Black Freedom, Black Joy, Black History, and Black Futures for the 160th anniversary of Juneteenth! Free food for the first 50 guests, a community mural, and free tote bags that you can “make your messages of freedom” for Juneteenth!  

Together we will connect and congregate! This pre-game party includes free food, art-making, and a DJ. After our event, don’t forget to stop by Black Business Enterprises for more activities and connections!

an experiment pt II with Leslie Parker & Collaborators is presented as part of the 27th Annual Twin Cities Jazz Festival. This FREE offering is a live performance of dance and music with Leslie Parker & Collaborators, and with guest artists coming from many different communities locally as well as across the United States.
